Shree Kurlung Baraha Primary School

The Shree Kurlung Baraha primary school is situated in the small village of Ghandruk in Kaski district of Nepal.  The district covers over 779sq miles and is at the foot of the vast Annapurna range.  As with most rural areas of Nepal, poverty is rife and most families survive hand-to-mouth.

The school caters for 50 children of various ages, with some of the children travelling up to two hours from the surrounding areas.  Attending school in Nepal is considered a great privilege and the children are willing to learn and bring pride to their families. The school requires a lot of investment to bring it up to a good standard.

What is needed?

The school is in need of renovation, which includes the replacing of the ceilings and the painting of classrooms plus building an additional room for child care. It requires an upgrade to the school’s communal area, sports field and a secure fence around the perimeter too.

What we take for granted in the western world is not readily available in rural Nepal. Simple things like pencils and writing paper are difficult to come by.  The school wishes to purchase a computer to allow the children to connect to the new digital world as mobile data networks are expanding in Nepal to allow internet access.
